St. John's men's basketball enters the 2026-27 season with high expectations following consecutive Big East regular-season and tournament championships. Head coach Rick Pitino, entering his 39th season, leads a team that finished the previous campaign with a 30-7 record and a Sweet 16 appearance.

The team is focused on integrating roster turnover and improving frontcourt defense. Key players include Quinn Ellis, Ian Jackson, and Tounde Yessoufou, with the frontcourt featuring Ruben Prey, Keyshawn Hall, and others.

Following an exhibition game at Madison Square Garden, where the No. 13 ranked Red Storm defeated No. 7 Texas by 13 points, the roster is being described as the most talented assembled during the Pitino era.
