Producers for ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ and ‘Doctor Who’ revealed that discussions regarding a major crossover between the two franchises were ultimately blocked. Akiva Goldsman noted that while attempts were made to plot the event, it was stopped by studio executives. In response to the cancellation, Goldsman incorporated ‘Doctor Who’ easter eggs, such as visual references to the TARDIS, into ‘Strange New Worlds’.

Former ‘Doctor Who’ showrunner Russell T. Davies clarified that the project had reached an advanced stage of planning, with the intention of developing more than a single episode, potentially as a separate spin-off. Davies stated that the collaboration failed to materialize due to complex international streaming rights, specifically noting that Disney+ held the international rights for ‘Doctor Who’ at the time of the discussions.
