Developments: 6. Reports continue to circulate regarding a new Star Wars trilogy, with recent updates reinforcing that Jon Watts has been selected to direct the first installment. Watts, known for the ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy and his work co-creating the Disney+ series ‘Skeleton Crew’, is reportedly being tapped to helm a project that may include ‘Star Wars: Episode X’. Simon Kinberg is expected to write the screenplays and handle production duties. Kinberg has allegedly been working on the scripts since late 2024. While earlier reports suggested the trilogy might launch a new saga, newer information indicates the project is likely intended to continue the Skywalker Saga, following the adventures of Rey. Daisy Ridley is reportedly being considered to reprise her role. Recent developments indicate that Disney and Lucasfilm are further expanding the franchise through additional directorial appointments. Director Shawn Levy is expected to direct multiple Star Wars films following his move from Netflix to Disney. Levy is specifically set to direct the upcoming film ‘Starfighter’, which is reportedly set to star Ryan Gosling. Further expansion is underway as Lucasfilm develops a new feature film titled ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’. Overseen by Dave Filoni, this project aims to blend modern visual effects with traditional techniques, such as stop-motion and practical models, to maintain the franchise’s aesthetic. These moves signal a significant return to the core Skywalker narrative after several years of focusing on spin-off content, though Disney and Lucasfilm have not yet confirmed specific release dates. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-05: Star Wars expands with new film and Skywalker trilogy Lucasfilm announces new Star Wars projects, including a ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ feature film and a new trilogy directed by Jon Watts that may feature the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/star-wars-expands-with-new-film-and-skywalker-trilogy ### 2026-10-02: Lucasfilm expands Star Wars franchise with new directorial projects Disney and Lucasfilm are expanding the Star Wars franchise, with Jon Watts reportedly set to direct Episode X and Shawn Levy slated to direct the upcoming film Starfighter. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/jon-watts-to-direct-new-star-wars-trilogy ### 2026-09-29: Lucasfilm plans new Star Wars Skywalker saga trilogy Lucasfilm is planning a new Star Wars trilogy continuing the Skywalker saga, with Jon Watts set to direct and Simon Kinberg to write, potentially featuring Daisy Ridley as Rey. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/lucasfilm-plans-new-star-wars-skywalker-saga-trilogy ### 2026-09-28: Jon Watts reportedly tapped to direct Star Wars: Episode 10 Jon Watts is reportedly set to direct Star Wars: Episode 10, with Simon Kinberg writing a new trilogy to continue the Skywalker Saga, though Disney has not yet officially confirmed the project. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/jon-watts-reportedly-tapped-to-direct-star-wars-episode-10 ### 2026-09-26: Jon Watts reportedly to direct new Star Wars trilogy Jon Watts is reportedly set to direct a new Star Wars trilogy written by Simon Kinberg, which may continue the Skywalker Saga and feature the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey. 100 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/jon-watts-rumored-to-direct-new-star-wars-trilogy ### 2026-09-21: Star Wars trilogy reportedly finds director Rumors suggest a director has been found for the new Star Wars trilogy written by Simon Kinberg, with production potentially beginning as early as next year. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/star-wars-trilogy-reportedly-finds-director --- Cite as: Star Wars trilogy production rumors.
