On September 30, a freight train identified as Tren 5004 derailed near Manuela Pedraza, in the Simoca jurisdiction. The derailment occurred while the train was traveling from north to south on tracks west of National Route 157. The incident began at the third wagon and affected up to the eighth unit, causing several of the 28 sugar-filled wagons to overturn and spill cargo into the surrounding vegetation. The train crew, including driver Maximiliano Castellano and train chief Esteban Góngora, remained uninjured. Authorities and railway personnel secured the scene to prevent looting, while technical experts began investigating whether the cause was a mechanical failure in the wheels or wear in the track sleepers. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-30: Simoca freight train derailment spills sugar cargo A freight train carrying 28 wagons of sugar derailed near Simoca, Argentina.
