The seismic swarm initiated by the June 8 Mw 7.7 Sulawesi Sea earthquake continued through August 2026. Following a series of tremors in June and July, activity intensified in mid-August. 

A powerful Mw 7.7 earthquake struck the Flores region on August 14–15, with the epicenter located in the sea near Ende or northeast of Mbay at a depth of 10 to 15 km. Attributed to the Flores back-arc thrust fault, the quake was felt as far as Lombok. The event triggered tsunami warnings for East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, and Southeast Sulawesi. Waves between 0.19 and 0.94 meters were detected, with the highest recorded in Maurole, Ende.
