The 8th edition of Summer CEmp, a summer school organized by the European Commission’s representation in Portugal, was held in Lousã for approximately 40 higher education students. The event coincided with the 40th anniversary of Portugal’s membership in the European Union.

Participants engaged in debates regarding various European Union agenda items, including climate change, biodiversity, migration, forest protection, and the impact of artificial intelligence and digital algorithms.

Speakers included Portuguese ministers Margarida Balseiro Lopes and Paulo Rangel, as well as Maria Luís Albuquerque, the Portuguese Commissioner for Financial Services, Union Savings and Investments. Former EU High Representative Federica Mogherini addressed the group, warning that rising populism and a shift away from multilateralism could lead to a world governed by ‘the law of the strongest.’ Additionally, the Irish Ambassador to Portugal, Alma Ní Choigligh, participated in a session concerning community funding.
