The cultural pairing of literary characters Sun Wukong and Lin Daiyu has gained significant traction on Chinese social media. The trend initially gained momentum following the announcement of iQIYI’s short film project ‘Qi Yu Ji’. The project’s character archetypes—a warrior who has fought demons for 500 years and a spiritual herb with a unique constitution—drew intense comparisons to the ‘Sheng Dai CP’ fan fiction, which imagines a romance between the two classic figures.

This interest has evolved into a broader viral phenomenon where users utilize AI technology to create romantic imagery and videos. The pairing, often described as ‘the anxious girl and the versatile boy’, relies on the contrast between Lin Daiyu’s fragile nature and Sun Wukong’s powerful persona. According to the Global Times, the trend demonstrates the enduring vitality of these characters in modern digital culture.
