Sunfire, a German electrolyser company, has expanded its role in green hydrogen technology through strategic partnerships and new infrastructure development.

In July 2026, Sunfire was named the preferred technology partner for Finland’s Ren-Gas. The partnership focuses on providing alkaline pressurised electrolyzers, including the HyLink® Alkaline 23 system, to support future green hydrogen and e-methane projects. This follows previous collaborations, such as a 20 MW alkaline electrolyser commissioned at the Harjavalta plant in March 2025.

By August 2026, Sunfire commenced construction of a high-temperature solid oxide electrolyzer cell (SOEC) test plant at the BASF industrial site in Schwarzheide, Germany. This 1.3 megawatt facility aims to validate technology that utilizes industrial waste heat to achieve efficiency levels of up to 89 percent, marking a step toward the commercial application of high-temperature electrolysis for industrial decarbonization.
