In late August 2026, President Jennifer Simons initiated a program to distribute school supply packages to students in Nieuw-Nickerie to alleviate parental costs for the upcoming school year. During the event, the President addressed the need for repairing school buildings and improving systemic efficiency through consultations with teachers.

By late September, the educational support expanded through a private donation from the Netherlands consisting of 21 containers of supplies, including desks, chairs, laptops, and digital boards. While the shipment provides immediate relief for shortages in regions such as Para, Paramaribo, and Sipaliwini, Education Minister Dirk Currie noted that such partnerships should not replace the government’s core responsibility to maintain a stable and well-funded educational system.
