Suryakumar Yadav has been excluded from the Mumbai squad for their opening Ranji Trophy match against Chandigarh. Despite Yadav making himself available for selection, the Mumbai Cricket Association and chief selector Rajesh Pawar cited his lack of red-ball cricket over the last 18 months and missed pre-season training camps as the primary reasons for the decision.

Mumbai captain Siddhesh Lad confirmed the exclusion, stating he supports the management’s decision while expressing respect for Yadav’s contributions to the sport. To regain selection, officials suggested Yadav participate in state-level club competitions.

Other squad developments include the appointment of 19-year-old Ayush Mhatre as vice-captain and reports that opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is practicing wicketkeeping skills to increase his versatility.
