In Puerto Montt, authorities launched a waste management pilot at Parque Costanera involving local government and academic institutions. A diagnostic phase indicated that approximately 77% of waste in the park is potentially valorizable, including glass, organic matter, and plastics. Following these local efforts, Chile implemented Clean Production Agreements (APL) in the Los Lagos region and the port of San Antonio. In Los Lagos, an agreement involving the Agency for Sustainability and Climate Change and the Chilean Chamber of Construction has certified 12 companies and 15 facilities, preventing the disposal of 62,802 tons of construction and demolition waste. In San Antonio, the Logistics Community of San Antonio (Colsa) signed its second Clean Production Agreement. This initiative involves 14 companies, including DP World and Maersk, aiming to create a more efficient, low-emission, and resilient port logistics chain. Further regional developments include a $500 million public-private partnership in the Tarapacá region between the Collahuasi Foundation and the Energy Sustainability Agency to introduce 18 electric taxis and charging infrastructure in Iquique and Alto Hospicio. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-20: Puerto Williams faces budget cuts and infrastructure challenges Puerto Williams leaders demand explanations for budget cuts affecting water and transport, while regional authorities coordinate multi-billion peso sanitation and urban infrastructure projects. 18 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/chile-implements-clean-production-agreements-in-los-lagos-and-san-antonio ### 2026-10-05: Puerto Montt launches sustainability and waste management initiatives Puerto Montt has launched a waste management pilot at Parque Costanera, while UACh is hosting a circular economy competition for students. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/puerto-montt-launches-sustainability-and-waste-management-initiatives --- Cite as: Sustainability and circular economy initiatives in Chile.
