# Sweden-Finland military security cooperation

Sweden is increasing military support to Finland to bolster air and maritime surveillance along the 1,340-kilometre border with Russia. Following a request from Helsinki due to a deteriorating security situation and frequent drone airspace incursions, the Swedish military will deploy Gripen fighter jets and a corvette warship to assist in monitoring Finnish territory. This deployment is expected to last at least until the end of 2026, aiming to free up Finnish resources for responding to direct incidents.

Swedish Defense Minister Pål Johnson noted that the deployment allows Swedish forces to assist in repelling violations of Finnish territory. In addition to aircraft and vessels capable of engaging unmanned aerial vehicles, Sweden may provide ground-based anti-drone systems. 

In a related development, the Swedish defense company Saab secured a 126 million dollar contract to supply Finland with RBS 70 NG portable air-defense missile systems.
