The Sydney Olympic Park precinct is undergoing significant infrastructure and urban planning transformations to transition from a transient event destination into a permanent residential and economic hub. In September 2026, the New South Wales government finalized a $780 million development plan for a new metro station at Sydney Olympic Park as part of the Sydney Metro West line. The station is designed to handle high-density crowds, with the capacity to evacuate 25,000 passengers per hour. The project includes an integrated precinct with retail, offices, a public plaza, and two residential towers providing approximately 500 new homes. Construction is slated to begin in mid-2027. Following this, the Sydney Olympic Park Authority introduced a masterplan aimed at increasing the local resident population from approximately 5,000 to 25,000. Acting chief executive Chris Martin characterized the current area as a “dormitory suburb,” noting that the new strategy intends to integrate housing with existing parklands and mangroves to foster an environment where residents can live, work, and play. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-04: Sydney Olympic Park masterplan aims to increase resident population to 25,000 The Sydney Olympic Park Authority plans to transform the event precinct into a residential hub, aiming to increase the population from 5,000 to 25,000 residents. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/sydney-olympic-park-masterplan-aims-to-increase-resident-population-to-25000 ### 2026-09-10: Sydney Olympic Park metro station development plan finalized A $780 million metro station and mixed-use precinct at Sydney Olympic Park has been approved, featuring four platforms to handle large event crowds.
