Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an has faced criticism regarding the city government’s handling of the 2024 Baolin tea house food poisoning incident. While Chiang claimed that officials collected evidence to ensure responsible parties “could not run away” and implemented new testing units, relatives of the six deceased victims have challenged these assertions. They allege that business owners transferred assets to avoid fines and noted that a 3.5 million TWD fine remains uncollected due to a lack of realizable property and expired insurance.

Furthermore, a report from the Control Yuan indicated that Taipei City Government inspectors arrived late and failed to seize suspicious ingredients or meals, which reportedly resulted in missed opportunities to identify the specific pathogen that poisoned 35 people.
