Despite this ambition, Kubo has recently experienced fluctuations in his playing time. By October 2026, Kubo faced a significant scoring slump, specifically a 595-day drought of goals scored at the club’s home stadium, Anoeta. His last goal at the venue was recorded in February 2025 against Leganés. While he had continued to score in away matches, his lack of production at home became a point of concern alongside other members of the Real Sociedad attacking line. Under manager Pellegrino Matarazzo, Kubo’s role in the starting lineup diminished due to this slump and the emergence of competitive rivals such as Job Ocien and Gonzalo Gedes. Local media reported that Kubo had missed ‘countless chances’ during a period where he was relegated to the bench for several consecutive matches. On October 17, 2026, Kubo ended his scoring drought and reclaimed a prominent role in the squad during a 5-2 La Liga away victory against Málaga. Returning to the starting lineup for the first time in seven matches following a knee injury, Kubo scored the opening goal in the 3rd minute and provided an assist for Mikel Oyarzabal. This performance marked his first goal since December of the previous year, ending a 302-day scoring drought. Kubo credited his success to the tactical support of teammate Hector Fort, noting that Fort’s overlapping runs created opportunities to cut inside. Manager Pellegrino Matarazzo praised Kubo’s focus and determination, stating, ‘He showed what he can do.’ However, following his resurgence, Kubo’s standing in the squad remains uncertain. Despite starting a recent Europa League fixture, he was an unused substitute during a 2-1 victory over Levante. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-24: Takefusa Kubo faces scrutiny over playing time at Real Sociedad Real Sociedad's Takefusa Kubo has drawn criticism after remaining an unused substitute during a recent match against Levante, fueling concerns over his standing in the squad. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/takefusa-kubo-faces-scrutiny-over-playing-time-at-real-sociedad ### 2026-10-19: Takefusa Kubo ends 302-day goal drought with Real Sociedad Real Sociedad's Takefusa Kubo ended a 302-day goal drought with a goal and an assist in a 5-2 win over Malaga, overcoming recent injury concerns and form struggles. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/takefusa-kubo-ends-302-day-goal-drought-with-real-sociedad ### 2026-10-17: Real Sociedad defeats Málaga 5-2 led by Takefusa Kubo Takefusa Kubo scored his first goal of the season and provided an assist as Real Sociedad defeated Málaga 5-2 in La Liga, marking a significant return to form for the Japanese midfielder. 10 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/takefusa-kubo-scores-first-goal-of-the-season-for-real-sociedad ### 2026-10-10: Takefusa Kubo faces prolonged goal drought at Real Sociedad Real Sociedad's Takefusa Kubo faces a 595-day home goal drought and declining playing time as rivals emerge in the attacking lineup ahead of the match against Deportivo La Coruña. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/takefusa-kubo-faces-595-day-home-goal-drought-at-real-sociedad ### 2026-09-15: Takefusa Kubo targets Europa League title with Real Sociedad Real Sociedad's Takefusa Kubo has set a goal to win the UEFA Europa League, while data shows the club has the lowest rate of new player utilization in Europe's top five leagues. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/takefusa-kubo-targets-europa-league-title-with-real-sociedad --- Cite as: Takefusa Kubo performance at Real Sociedad.
