The Chennai Central Crime Branch (CCB) launched an investigation into an alleged bribery racket involving approximately Rs 100 crore collected from private schools in exchange for government approvals and statutory clearances. The probe followed the arrest of P. D. Arakumar, president of the Tamil Nadu Private Schools Association, who is alleged to have facilitated these payments. During the investigation, authorities conducted searches at multiple locations, including the residence of former Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, seizing documents related to school inspections and results. Anbil Mahesh has characterized the investigation as a “political tactic” by the current government. In response to the legal proceedings, Anbil Mahesh approached the Madras High Court to quash the case registered by the CCB. Meanwhile, the Madras High Court quashed the detention of P. T. Arasakumar under the Goondas Act, directing his release following a petition that argued the charges were motivated by political animosity. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-28: Anbil Mahesh seeks to quash school bribery case in Madras High Court Former Minister Anbil Mahesh seeks to quash a bribery case involving alleged illegal collections from private schools, while the Madras High Court quashes the Goondas Act detention of association head P.
