Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has engaged in high-level diplomatic efforts to secure infrastructure funding and resolve critical interstate water-sharing disputes.

On October 11, during an event at IIT Madras where Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated development projects worth over 13,000 crore rupees, Chief Minister Vijay presented six specific requests to the Prime Minister. These included the unconditional release of 5,110 crore rupees pending under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme, approval for Chennai Metro Rail Phase 3, and the consideration of metro projects for Coimbatore and Madurai. He also proposed an interstate metro line between Hosur and Bommasandra, high-speed rail corridors, and the designation of the Godavari-Cauvery river linking project as a national project.

Following these requests, Chief Minister Vijay met with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada on October 12 to address water deficits under the Telugu Ganga Project. While Tamil Nadu officials noted a shortfall in the required 12 TMC annual supply of Krishna water, Chief Minister Naidu stated that Andhra Pradesh has released 4.08 TMC to date. Naidu attributed scarcity to reduced inflows caused by El Niño but expressed commitment to Chennai’s needs, suggesting further releases would depend on water availability.

The leaders also discussed the feasibility of the Godavari-Krishna-Cauvery river interlinking project as a long-term drought solution and addressed concerns regarding proposed dam constructions by Andhra Pradesh on rivers flowing toward the Tamil Nadu border. The Tamil Nadu delegation included Water Resources Minister Anand.
