Following the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, the Tamil Nadu government has initiated a series of financial rewards for athletes from the state.

Initial announcements focused on specific achievements, including a ₹75 lakh award for cricketer G. Kamalini following the Indian women’s cricket team’s gold medal victory, and a ₹30 lakh incentive for Baranica Elangovan, who became the first Indian to win an Asian Games medal in women’s pole vault.

The scope of the rewards expanded as the state government moved to provide a total of Rs 6.9 crore to 12 athletes who secured 18 medals (two gold, three silver, and 13 bronze). During a ceremony in Chennai, Sports Development Minister Aadhav Arjuna honored several winners, including Vithya Ramraj, who earned Rs 1.55 crore after becoming the first athlete from Tamil Nadu to win three medals at a single Asian Games and breaking a 42-year-old national record in the women’s 400m hurdles.
