On October 4, a Sindbard Air Embraer EMB-120 aircraft, carrying 26 passengers and four crew members, collided with a zebra during takeoff from the Seronera airstrip in Serengeti National Park. The aircraft was en route to Zanzibar when the collision occurred.

Following the impact, which killed the zebra, the plane experienced landing gear issues and was diverted to Kilimanjaro International Airport. The aircraft performed an emergency belly landing, resulting in substantial damage and visible smoke at the airport. All 30 people on board survived without injury.

Operations at Kilimanjaro International Airport were temporarily suspended following the incident. The Tanzanian Civil Aviation Authority has launched an investigation to determine if the animal collision caused the mechanical failure.
