Fitch Ratings affirmed Tanzania’s long-term foreign- and local-currency issuer default ratings at ‘B+’ and upgraded its outlook from stable to positive. The agency attributed this shift to strengthening macroeconomic fundamentals, including sustained economic growth, moderate fiscal deficits, and improving foreign exchange reserves.

Fitch projects Tanzania’s real GDP growth to reach 5.8 percent in 2026, with an average of 6.1 percent between 2027 and 2028, driven by tourism, mining, public investment, and regional logistics. While reserves are expected to rise to $7.9 billion by 2028, the agency noted that the rating is still constrained by low government revenue and weak governance.
