The Tasmania Devils, an upcoming Australian Football League club, are implementing strategies to build competitiveness ahead of their 2028 entry. 

In August 2026, the club proposed a novel trade model to acquire experienced players. Under this scheme, the Devils would trade their large block of early draft selections to rival clubs in exchange for veteran players, while the rival clubs would continue to pay the majority of those players’ contracts to avoid salary-cap issues. This arrangement is intended to allow the club to build a roster without incurring significant salary-cap hits.

Simultaneously, the club is investing in infrastructure, with funding for a new high-performance centre at Kingston’s Twin Ovals increasing from $70 million to $115 million. The facility, which Fairbrother Construction will build, is intended to serve as a recruitment ‘ace’ to attract and retain talent. While the full centre is expected to be completed in 2028, the main training ground is scheduled to be operational by October 2027.
