The Tasmania JackJumpers have continued their strong NBL season, maintaining their position at the top of the standings. Following an earlier victory over the New Zealand Breakers, the team secured a 96-91 comeback win against the South East Melbourne Phoenix in their season opener. This match was marked by controversy regarding a new FIBA rule introduced for the NBL27 season. After a ‘disruptive foul’ by Nick Marshall, Skylar Mays attempted free throws instead of D’Shawn Schwartz. Under rule 45.4.3, the shots were cancelled and possession was awarded to Tasmania, a decision NBL Head of Referees Scott Butler stated was irreversible because Mays approached the line without official instruction. South East Melbourne coach Josh King described the ruling as “very confusing.”

In their subsequent performance, the JackJumpers defeated the Brisbane Bullets 106-85 at MyState Bank Arena, improving their season record to 6-2. Josh Bannan led the team with 22 points, nine rebounds, and five assists, while Taran Armstrong added 19 points. The Bullets, who fell to a 3-4 record, struggled with injuries to several key players, though they saw the debut of NBA veteran Raul Neto.
