The Tavşanlı district in Kütahya is transitioning from a focus on its historical and archaeological mining heritage toward modern industrial development. 

Initially, academic and local leaders convened for the 6th Turkey Historical Mines Conference to discuss the region’s rich natural resources and its significance as a Bronze Age center. Officials noted that mining has been a cornerstone of the local identity and the national economy since the late 1930s.

Following these discussions on the region's mining legacy, the Ministry of Industry and Technology designated approximately 287 hectares of former mining sites as the ‘Tavşanlı Investment Area’. This initiative aims to transform abandoned lignite mining fields into industrial zones for high-technology production facilities, supported by expedited permits and infrastructure development.
