The Municipality of Salerno has escalated its legal and administrative actions against the management of the Grand Hotel Salerno regarding a tax debt involving unpaid Imu, Tari, and tourist taxes. While the total debt was previously cited at 9 million euros, recent reports indicate the outstanding amount is approximately 8 million euros, split between a primary company owing 4.3 million euros and two related entities.

Mayor Vincenzo De Luca has threatened to suspend the hotel’s operating license, citing the rejection of installment requests by municipal offices. Additionally, the Mayor has filed reports with the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Guardia di Finanza concerning the building’s alleged state of abandonment.

In response to the threat of closure, the TAR Campania issued a precautionary decree suspending the municipal order to halt operations. The court granted an injunction requested by the management company, Immobiliare Panoramica s. r. l., citing the potential for “significant economic and organizational damage” if the hotel were closed during peak occupancy.

The owners have since filed a 35-page appeal with the Regional Administrative Court, arguing that the municipality rejected a 3-million-euro surety bond intended to facilitate a progressive repayment plan. The defense contends that suspending the license is “disproportionate and illogical,” as it prevents the business from generating the revenue required to settle its debts. The dispute has become a political matter within the Salerno City Council, with a court ruling on the appeal expected between September 24 and 25.
