The TBS drama ‘Iroha no Koi wa Jidai wo Kakeru’ has premiered, starring Mone Kamishiraishi in a dual role. The romantic comedy follows the soul of Iroha, a spirited daughter of an Edo-period messenger, who time-slips into the body of a modern-day elementary school teacher, Ayaha Nashiki. Kamishiraishi portrays both characters, contrasting the boisterous Edo-period personality with the more reserved modern teacher.

Following the departure of Fuma Kikuchi due to health reasons, Koji Mukai of Snow Man joined the series as the replacement lead. Production staff noted that Mukai has developed a strong working relationship with Kamishiraishi and has become a positive presence on set. The cast also includes Motoki Ohmori of Mrs. GREEN APPLE, who portrays Sekitaka Kowa, a historical mathematician and samurai from the Edo period known for his work calculating pi. The character of Sekitaka Kowa meets Iroha through a messenger service, developing a deep bond despite their differing social statuses.

Recent casting additions include singer and entertainer Ami Suzuki, who will portray Shion Yoshida, a former model turned influencer. Her character is the mother of a student who begins refusing to attend school, introducing storylines regarding the conflict between school attendance efforts and parental desires for student autonomy.

The series premiered on October 13, with the first episode recording a household viewership rating of 5.5% in the Kanto region. While the premiere focused on Iroha’s transition into the Reiwa era and her challenges managing a third-grade classroom, social media reception has been largely positive, specifically praising Kamishiraishi’s ability to handle the character’s distinct dialect and dual roles.
