Sources: 7. Developments: 2. Political tensions have escalated in Telangana as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Congress government trade accusations regarding a severe drinking water shortage and drought-like conditions affecting Hyderabad and local farmers. BRS leaders have alleged that the crisis is “man-made,” claiming that the current administration has allowed significant amounts of Godavari water to flow into the sea instead of replenishing reservoirs. They noted that Hyderabad residents are experiencing low water pressure and frequent shortages, with approximately 7,000 water tanker bookings recorded daily in October. In response, the Congress party has attributed the shortage to natural climatic challenges, specifically the El Nino phenomenon and a 17 per cent deficit in southwest monsoon rainfall. Congress officials have accused the BRS of politicizing the situation, while also counter-accusing the previous BRS administration of mismanagement and corruption related to the Kaleshwaram project and the Medigadda Barrage. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-26: Telangana political dispute erupts over water crisis The BRS and Congress parties are clashing in Telangana over a water crisis, with BRS alleging government negligence and Congress attributing the shortage to El Nino and deficient rainfall. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/telangana-political-dispute-erupts-over-water-crisis ### 2026-10-24: Telangana politicians clash over Hyderabad water crisis The BRS and Congress parties are clashing in Telangana over Hyderabad's water crisis, with BRS alleging wasted river water and Congress blaming previous administration corruption. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/telangana-politicians-clash-over-hyderabad-water-crisis --- Cite as: Telangana political dispute over water crisis.
