Sources: 28. Developments: 4. The No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners met in the 122nd edition of the Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl on October 10. Prior to the matchup, Texas entered undefeated at 4-0 and was favored by approximately 7.5 points. While Oklahoma held a 2-2 record and faced the absence of eight players, including key offensive linemen, their defense ranked first in the SEC in passing yards allowed per game. In a dramatic upset, the Oklahoma Sooners defeated the Longhorns 27-24. The victory was secured on the final play of the game when Tate Sandell converted a 47-yard field goal. This win marks Oklahoma’s first victory against a top-ranked opponent since 2007. Oklahoma’s success relied heavily on defensive and special teams play. Peyton Bowen contributed a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown, and Dakoda Fields recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for another score. Despite being outgained 382-238, Oklahoma capitalized on these opportunities. Texas held a 17-7 halftime lead but struggled with offensive consistency, particularly during a third quarter where they managed only 41 yards on their first three possessions. Head coach Steve Sarkisian noted that the team is working to address issues regarding offensive inconsistency and an inability to sustain drives, highlighting that the team suffered eight three-and-out sequences during the game. Quarterback Arch Manning threw three touchdown passes, but the Longhorns’ momentum was hampered by two costly interceptions in the fourth quarter. One interception was returned for a touchdown by Bowen, and a second occurred with just 19 seconds remaining in the game. Texas had late opportunities to reclaim the lead, but kicker Gianni Spetic missed a 53-yard field goal attempt with under two minutes remaining. ## Claims - The Texas Longhorns hold a 4-0 record and are ranked number one in the nation.
