The Texas Longhorns defeated the Tennessee Volunteers 20-17 in a game involving player injury and officiating debate.

During the second quarter, Tennessee quarterback Faizon Brandon sustained a right shoulder injury after falling awkwardly. Although he was escorted off the field for evaluation, head coach Josh Heupel confirmed that Brandon was able to return to the game. Brandon finished the contest with 145 passing yards and one touchdown.

Following the loss, controversy arose regarding a drop-kick onside kick by Tennessee punter Jackson Ross. While Tennessee recovered the ball, officials noted a potential violation regarding the kick’s placement relative to the 35-yard restraining line. Additionally, analysts defended Brandon against public criticism, noting that the offense allowed 10 sacks and struggled with running support during the matchup.
