A Texas district attorney is investigating political mailers sent to over 1 million Texas households to determine if they constitute forgery. The pamphlets, sent under the name “Texas Transgender Student Union,” provided information on transgender student rights, medical care, and emancipation. While the materials used a Houston-area post office box and claimed affiliation with Texas advocacy groups, state records indicated the organization was registered as a limited liability company in Wyoming.

The Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT) reported that the campaign used its logo, branding, and event photographs without authorization, and featured a return address nearly identical to TENT’s actual address. TENT stated the campaign caused the organization to face death threats and reputational harm.

Investigations have linked the bulk mail to Three Z Printing, an Illinois-based company owned by Bill Zerrusen. Legal proceedings have also expanded to include unsolicited text messages. A deposition from the wireless service provider InfoBip indicated these messages were sent on behalf of the Republican Women Caucus Fund and an individual named John Braun, though a spokesperson for the fund has denied any involvement.

In a recent development, the Texas Supreme Court issued a stay to block a deposition intended to identify the group behind the mailers and text messages. While a Travis County judge had previously ordered representatives of the union to answer questions under oath, the state’s highest court intervened to pause proceedings. This decision means the identities of those behind the campaign may not be revealed until after the 2026 midterm elections.
