The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has implemented several initiatives to promote the country as a diverse travel destination. Initially, the TAT focused on international film production and tourism at the Toronto International Film Festival 2026 through the ‘Amazing Location: From Scene to Scenic’ campaign. This effort included showcasing ten specific filming routes to encourage ‘set-jetting’ among international travelers.

Following this, the TAT unveiled a 2027 tourism strategy titled ‘Year of Transformation,’ which aims to decentralize revenue by shifting focus toward regional history and local lifestyles across 55 destinations. To support these efforts, the government launched the ‘Amazing Thailand: Travel Thailand with Tours’ project, providing subsidies for organized group tours to stimulate regional economies.

In response to declining domestic demand driven by rising energy prices and living costs, the TAT has proposed a 3.5 billion baht stimulus program titled ‘Thai Teaw Thai Plus’ for 2027. This initiative seeks to provide 1.5 billion baht for hotel subsidies and up to 2 billion baht for digital vouchers to benefit 200,000 citizens.

To maintain tourism momentum and avoid placing additional financial pressure on passengers and airlines amid rising energy costs, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas confirmed that the government has placed a proposed 1,000-baht departure tax on hold. The Ministry of Finance is currently evaluating the potential impact of the levy, which would have applied to both Thai citizens and foreign visitors departing via air. While the departure tax is paused, a proposed 450-baht entry fee for foreign tourists remains under consideration by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, with a tentative target for implementation in the first quarter of 2027.
