In France, the network M6 reported an increase in market share and viewership following a strategic decision to air two episodes back-to-back in late September 2026. Specifically, on September 26, 2026, the episode ‘Le téléphone à un million’ drew 698,000 viewers, a 1.4 point market share increase, while ‘Amour brûlant’ gathered 523,000 viewers, marking a 1.5 point increase. However, other recent broadcasts of season eight on M6 have faced viewership challenges, with episodes ‘A Particular Day’ and ‘Zombie Attacks’ seeing market shares of approximately 3% and 2.7% respectively. In Australia, Channel 7 aired the fifteenth episode of season eight, ‘Survive the Streets’, which follows John Nolan and Celina Juarez investigating a case that evolves from a potential suicide into a possible conspiracy. In Italy, Rai 2 is scheduled to air two episodes of season eight on October 25, 2026: ‘È tutto un gioco’, featuring Nyla Harper’s return to active duty, and ‘Incubo’, which involves a potential breakthrough in the Glasser case. Following these developments, ABC announced that season nine is scheduled to premiere on January 6, 2027, moving to a Wednesday night time slot. This 13-episode season will lead into the spinoff ‘The Rookie: North’, starring Jay Ellis as Alex Holland. Season nine will address the season eight cliffhanger involving the kidnapping and torture of Tim Bradford, with Lucy Chen involved in a high-stakes rescue mission. New cast members include Troian Bellisario as rookie officer Stephanie ‘Stevie’ Monroe, Dulé Hill as Lieutenant Hughes, and Molly Kunz. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-23: The Rookie returns with new episodes and season updates The Rookie continues with new eighth-season episodes airing on Rai 2 and preparations for a high-stakes ninth season premiering January 6, featuring a rescue mission for Tim Bradford. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/the-rookie-returns-with-new-episodes-and-season-updates ### 2026-10-17: The Rookie expands with new cast members and a spin-off At New York Comic Con, ‘The Rookie’ creator Alexi Hawley announced season 9 additions, including Troian Bellisario, and a new spin-off titled ‘The Rookie: North’. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/the-rookie-expands-with-new-cast-members-and-a-spin-off ### 2026-10-11: ABC announces 'The Rookie' season nine and spinoff premiere dates ABC will premiere 'The Rookie' season nine and its spinoff 'The Rookie: North' on January 6, 2027, featuring regular crossovers and new guest stars including Troian Bellisario and Dulé Hill. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/abc-announces-the-rookie-season-9-and-spinoff-premiere-dates ### 2026-10-03: The Rookie season 8 sees viewership shifts and new plot developments The eighth season of ‘The Rookie’ is seeing viewership growth on France's M6 following a double-episode broadcast, while Channel 7 in Australia continues the season with a new conspiracy-themed episode. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/the-rookie-season-8-sees-viewership-shifts-and-new-plot-developments --- Cite as: The Rookie television series developments.
