The Mayor of Thessaloniki, Stelios Angeloudis, launched the ‘Destination Thessaloniki’ initiative in Bucharest to promote the Greek city to the Romanian market. The campaign emphasizes Thessaloniki’s Byzantine heritage, UNESCO monuments, and culinary traditions, noting that Romania was the city’s sixth largest international market in 2025 with 92,955 overnight stays.

Following discussions regarding tourism, university cooperation, and connectivity, the mayors of Thessaloniki and Bucharest are preparing to sign a memorandum of cooperation. This formal agreement is expected to be signed in Thessaloniki during the spring, with Bucharest Mayor Ciprian Ciucu anticipated to visit Greece in March or April.
