Following a devastating flash flood in the border region between Nepal and Tibet that resulted in at least 633 deaths, Hong Kong and Macau launched humanitarian aid efforts.

In Hong Kong, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu directed the Disaster Relief Fund to reserve approximately 5.5 million euros for “emergency aid projects.” Simultaneously, the Macau government pledged approximately 3.85 million euros through the Macau Foundation to assist with rescue and post-disaster operations.

Subsequent relief efforts included an additional 4.8 million euros donated by six gaming operators in Macau. These contributions, which included pledges from SJM Resorts, S.A., Wynn Macau Limited, and the Galaxy Entertainment Group alongside the Lui Che Woo Family Charity Foundation, were aimed at emergency relief, resettlement, and reconstruction, specifically targeting recovery in Gyirong County.
