Developments: 2. Timișoara Traian Vuia International Airport scheduled a complete suspension of all take-offs and landings from November 2 to November 22, 2026, to perform essential runway repairs and infrastructure maintenance. During this three-week period, flight operations were redirected to Arad International Airport. Airlines such as Wizz Air, Tarom, and HiSky utilized Arad to maintain regional connectivity, while Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines suspended their Timișoara flights. Arad expected to handle between seven and ten scheduled flights per day, serving destinations including Brussels-Charleroi, Barcelona, Milan-Bergamo, and Rome. To manage the surge, Arad Airport implemented measures to accommodate approximately 50,000 passengers, including an investment of approximately 1.5 million lei to triple parking capacity through an automated payment system. Additionally, 90 staff members from Timișoara were deployed to Arad to assist with the increased passenger and baggage workload. Travelers were advised that no organized transport is provided between Timișoara and Arad, and they must arrange their own travel between the two cities. ## Timeline ### 2026-11-02: Arad Airport takes over Timișoara flights for three weeks Timișoara Airport has closed for three weeks for runway repairs, redirecting approximately 50,000 passengers to Arad Airport, which has expanded its capacity to handle the temporary increase in flights. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/arad-airport-hosts-timioara-flights-during-three-week-closure ### 2026-10-15: Timișoara Airport to suspend operations for runway repairs Timișoara Traian Vuia International Airport will close from November 2–22, 2026, for runway repairs, with flights relocating to Arad. 13 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/romanian-railway-infrastructure-updates --- Cite as: Timișoara Airport runway maintenance.
