During the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, the restored 1967 film ‘Col cuore in gola’ by director Tinto Brass was screened as an independent event within the Venice Classics section. Following the screening, Tinto Brass was awarded the Pietro Bianchi Prize by the Italian Film Journalists (SNGCI), which recognized him as an “excellent figure in Italian cinema” for his unconventional filmmaking approach.

In connection with the festival, director and producer Max Zanin proposed a Lifetime Achievement Golden Lion for Brass. Zanin argued that Brass’s later erotic films should be viewed as inherently political, as they center female sexual freedom and bodily autonomy as a radical stance against moral judgment.

The festival also honored actress Ewa Aulin, a former muse of Brass and a prominent figure in Italian cinema known for her work at Cinecittà. 

Parallel commemorations took place in Baiso, Italy, marking the 50th anniversary of the passing of cultural critic Pietro Bianchi. The program at Casa Toschi included a public meeting and a screening of the documentary ‘Il portoghese’, which examines Bianchi’s impact on Italian cultural journalism and his ability to connect cinema with literature and the arts.
