U.S. Representative and Wisconsin Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany and pilot Leonard Boltz survived an emergency water landing in Lake Wausau on a Saturday night. The single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza reportedly lost power while approaching the Wausau Downtown Airport.

As the aircraft began to submerge, Tiffany and Boltz exited the plane and swam approximately 100 to 150 feet to reach a shallow sandbar. They were rescued by a Wausau Fire Department airboat at approximately 9:05 p.m.

Both men were transported to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Tiffany sustained facial lacerations that required 12 stitches but was released the same night. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified to investigate the cause of the mechanical failure.
