Author Tomi Adeyemi has announced her intention to avoid future film adaptations of her literary works following what she described as a traumatic experience during the production of the ‘Children of Blood and Bone’ movie. In interviews, including one with The Guardian, Adeyemi characterized the production process as ‘the worst thing I have ever had to live through.’ She reported that the experience caused significant mental and physical distress, including hyperventilating, sobbing, panic attacks, and severe somatic pain. While she did not provide specific details regarding the incidents on set, she noted feeling ‘antagonized behind the scenes’ and stated she felt compelled to speak out in order to move forward. The film adaptation, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and featuring a cast including Viola Davis, Idris Elba, and Regina King, had previously encountered scrutiny regarding casting and colorism. Adeyemi is currently focusing on her new novel, ‘The Siren’ and has vowed she will ‘never’ allow her books to be adapted into films again. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-29: Tomi Adeyemi vows to never adapt books to film again Author Tomi Adeyemi says she will never adapt her books for film again after a traumatic experience during the production of ‘Children of Blood and Bone’. 10 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/tomi-adeyemi-vows-to-avoid-future-book-to-film-adaptations ### 2026-09-27: Tomi Adeyemi vows to avoid future film adaptations after traumatic experience Author Tomi Adeyemi says she will not watch the ‘Children of Blood and Bone’ film adaptation and vows never to turn her books into movies again following a traumatic production experience. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/tomi-adeyemi-vows-to-avoid-future-film-adaptations-after-traumatic-experience --- Cite as: Tomi Adeyemi's opposition to future film adaptations.
