The Toronto Maple Leafs have faced internal strategic and roster-related challenges. Initially, the team dealt with postseason pressure on star player Auston Matthews and coaching tensions under Jim Hiller regarding defensive responsibilities and player roles.

As the situation progressed, scrutiny shifted toward roster composition and player performance. Analysts suggested potential lineup adjustments, such as moving John Tavares to a third-line role to accommodate faster centers and support younger players like William Nylander.
