Valentina Stragliotto, a 27-year-old digital marketing professional originally from Italy and residing in the United Kingdom, died following a fall at a waterfall in Sri Lanka’s Ella region. Initial reports indicated that Stragliotto fell approximately 30 meters from the Ravana Falls after losing her balance while positioned on a rock. While she was rescued and taken to Demodara Hospital, she passed away shortly after arrival. Local authorities noted that the rocks near the falls can be extremely slippery due to water and algae. Subsequent details identified the location as the Kithal Ella waterfall in the Badulla District. Investigations suggested the fall may have occurred while she was attempting to take a selfie or admire the view. A post-mortem report from the Badulla Teaching Hospital cited severe injuries to her head and internal organs as the primary cause of death. The British High Commission in Colombo is providing consular assistance to her family regarding the repatriation of her remains. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-29: British tourist dies after falling from Kithal Ella waterfall in Sri Lanka Valentina Stragliotto, a 27-year-old British resident, died after falling over a 30-meter precipice at Kithal Ella waterfall in Sri Lanka while visiting the site with a companion. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/british-tourist-dies-after-falling-from-kithal-ella-waterfall-in-sri-lanka ### 2026-09-26: Valentina Stragliotto dies after 30-meter fall at Sri Lanka's Ravana Falls Italian traveler Valentina Stragliotto, 27, died after falling 30 meters from the Ravana Falls in Ella, Sri Lanka, while on vacation with a friend. 11 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/italian-tourist-valentina-stragliotto-dies-in-sri-lanka-waterfall-fall --- Cite as: Tourist fatality at Sri Lankan waterfall.
