Developments: 2. The development of major infrastructure in Trabzon, Turkey, has seen both scrutiny and progress. In early October 2026, Turkish lawmaker Suiçmez initiated a parliamentary inquiry into the Ministry of Health regarding repeated delays in the opening of the Trabzon City Hospital. The inquiry specifically requested information on costs, new completion dates, and the structural integrity of the facility, which is built on the Akyazı landfill site. Concerns were raised regarding ground settlement and the need for scientific monitoring, such as satellite measurements, to ensure the stability of the structure built on approximately 5,000 bored piles. By late October 2026, official reports indicated that the Trabzon City Hospital is nearing completion. The 900-bed facility, costing over 11.7 billion TL, incorporates 762 seismic isolators and 5,200 fore piles to ensure earthquake resilience. Concurrently, construction has commenced on the Trabzon New Airport project, a sea-based facility utilizing 100 million tons of fill and a 6,000-meter breakwater to accommodate 10 million passengers annually. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-27: Trabzon infrastructure projects advance with new airport and city hospital Trabzon is seeing significant infrastructure growth with the start of construction on a new sea-based airport and the nearing completion of a 900-bed City Hospital. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/trabzon-infrastructure-projects-advance-with-new-airport-and-city-hospital ### 2026-10-08: Trabzon City Hospital opening delays prompt parliamentary inquiry Lawmaker Suiçmez has called for official explanations regarding the repeated opening delays of Trabzon City Hospital and raised concerns over the ground safety of the Akyazı construction site. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/trabzon-city-hospital-opening-delays-prompt-parliamentary-inquiry --- Cite as: Trabzon infrastructure development.
