Monza striker Gustavo Varela has attracted significant interest from major European clubs following a prolific start to the Serie A season. The 21-year-old Portuguese forward has recorded high scoring numbers, including six goals in six league matches.

Arsenal is reportedly monitoring Varela as a potential attacking reinforcement, while Napoli is also considering a move for the player during the January transfer window.

Negotiations are complicated by the terms of Varela’s move from Benfica to Monza. Benfica retains the right to match any incoming bids to bring the player back to Lisbon and is entitled to 20 per cent of any future capital gains realized by Monza from a sale.
