Peruvian entertainer Pablo Villanueva, known as Melcochita, was honored in his birthplace of La Victoria with a fiberglass bust and a street mural to celebrate his 90th birthday and a career spanning over 60 years.

The bust, created by artist Raúl Franco, was unveiled at Chicama Park in a ceremony attended by Villanueva and Mayor Rubén Cano. A colorful mural by Antonio Díaz was also installed on Rivas Street, featuring Villanueva’s catchphrase, ‘¡No vayan!’. 

These tributes precede Villanueva’s farewell concert, ‘Los 90 de Melcochita: la despedida del sonero’, scheduled for September 26 at the Centro de Convenciones del Parque de la Amistad.
