The Soca music scene in Trinidad and Tobago is seeing significant activity regarding major competitions. Scorch Events announced that the International Soca Monarch competition will return for the 2027 Trinidad Carnival on February 5, 2027. This revived event will include three categories: Power Soca, Groovy Soca, and a new Steam category. The 2027 edition will also feature a cultural tribute to the late calypso icon Slinger “Mighty Sparrow” Francisco, requiring finalists to incorporate elements of his legacy into their presentations.

In local competition, artist Tam Tam won the 2026 Tobago Carnival Soca Titans title with the song “Follow Me,” securing a $75,000 prize. This victory grants Tam Tam automatic qualification for the semifinals of the 2027 International Soca Monarch competition. This connection follows a new agreement intended to provide Tobago winners a guaranteed path to the international stage.
