Sources: 20. Developments: 7. Troy Aikman’s professional future remains uncertain as his contract with ESPN approaches expiration. While his longtime broadcast partner, Joe Buck, recently secured a six-year extension, Aikman has noted that he has not yet entered contract negotiations with ESPN officials. Reports indicate that the differing contract statuses led to a heated argument between the duo prior to a Buffalo Bills vs. Los Angeles Rams game on October 12. Addressing the reports, Aikman did not deny the tension, stating, “I don’t know that it’s hard to figure out kind of what’s happened.” He confirmed he will be a free agent in March following the conclusion of the 2026 season, noting, “It just seems to be where they’re going — that they’re gonna go in a different direction because there’s been no talks, no contract negotiations.” As Aikman prepares for free agency, his advisory role with the Miami Dolphins is also in flux, as he currently serves as a consultant on an at-will basis without a formal ongoing agreement. Potential broadcasting suitors for the Hall of Fame analyst include CBS or Amazon Prime Video. Regarding his long-term career, Aikman continues to express openness to a potential role within the Dallas Cowboys organization. He noted that while his relationship with owner Jerry Jones is ‘complicated,’ it is built on mutual respect, adding that if Jones felt he could provide services to help the organization, he would find it ‘difficult not to consider the opportunity.’ ## Claims - Joe Buck and Troy Aikman had a disagreement prior to the Bills-Rams broadcast in Los Angeles.
