The Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) initiated efforts to support the olive oil industry by urging financial institutions to increase funding for the 2026-2027 harvest season. The BCT emphasized the necessity of mobilizing liquidity to cover the entire production chain, from harvesting and pressing to storage and exportation. Following these calls, the Tunisian government, under President Kaïs Saïed, adopted specific measures to assist the sector and small-scale farmers. This includes mobilizing 150 million dinars through public and private banks to allow the National Oil Office (ONH) to purchase national production and regulate the market. Further support includes 20 million dinars in preferential credits for small farmers via the Tunisian Solidarity Bank (BTS), with priority given to those acquiring mechanical harvesting equipment. Additionally, the 2027 finance bill includes a 100 million dinar funding line for the 2027–2030 period to provide seasonal and investment credits at preferential rates. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-26: Tunisia implements measures to support olive oil sector Tunisia has announced a support package for the olive oil sector, including 150 million dinars for market regulation and preferential credits for small-scale farmers. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/tunisia-implements-measures-to-support-olive-oil-sector ### 2026-10-19: Central Bank of Tunisia urges banks to fund olive oil season The Central Bank of Tunisia has urged banks to increase financing for the 2026-2027 olive oil season, supporting stakeholders from harvest to export. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/central-bank-of-tunisia-urges-banks-to-fund-olive-oil-season --- Cite as: Tunisian olive oil sector financial support.
