In preparation for the COP31 UN Climate Change Conference to be hosted in Antalya, Turkey, the Ministry of Family and Social Services has launched a nationwide awareness campaign in collaboration with UNICEF Türkiye and the Zero Waste Foundation. This initiative emphasizes that children bear the greatest burden of environmental shifts.

Expanding across 81 provinces—including Aydın, Bursa, Kocaeli, Trabzon, Kırıkkale, Muş, Bitlis, Ordu, Giresun, and Nevşehir—Child Rights Committees are conducting field activities such as zero waste workshops, sustainable living seminars, and environmental protection training. Recent activities in cities such as Samsun, Konya, and Kırklareli have included sapling distribution, digital waste awareness, and the creation of ‘Climate Trees’ where citizens and children share environmental messages.

In Erzurum, the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services organized a program where children visited thermal-supported tomato greenhouses in the Aziziye Municipality. This allowed participants to observe sustainable agriculture and engage in the full cycle of local production and marketing at the Ilıca market to foster awareness of conscious consumption.

Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş stated that the involvement of children is central to COP31 preparations, noting that their perspectives and solutions are vital for shaping a sustainable future. As preparations intensify, the Ministry is also addressing digital safety. New regulations are being developed for digital platforms to protect children, including a proposed controlled entry system via e-Devlet to manage access to gaming platforms like Roblox and Discord, and specific content differentiation for the 15-18 age group to mitigate risks such as anxiety and decreased concentration.
