Turkey is expanding its domestic energy production through both fossil fuel and renewable initiatives. In the Gabar region of Şırnak, oil production has reached approximately 84,000 to 85,000 barrels per day, with Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stating targets to exceed 100,000 barrels daily by 2027. Exploration efforts in western Gabar are reportedly nearing the discovery of new reserves.

In the Black Sea, the Sakarya Gas Field has entered a second phase involving the deployment of a massive offshore platform, approximately 300 meters long. This facility is intended to double natural gas production from 10 million to 20 million cubic meters per day, transporting gas 170 kilometers to Filyos.

To enhance energy security, Minister Bayraktar has set an ambitious target to reach one million barrels of oil and natural gas production per day. This strategy includes international acquisitions and partnerships in regions such as Africa and Lebanon. Current production capacity stands at 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent, with projections to reach 550,000 to 600,000 by 2028.

Beyond hydrocarbons, Turkey is exploring nuclear technology. Through a partnership with the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), the refiner TÜPRAŞ is receiving technical assistance to develop a roadmap for small modular reactors (SMRs). The government intends to add 5,000 megawatts of SMR capacity to the energy mix by 2050. Long-term goals also include sourcing 70 percent of energy needs from renewables by 2040, supported by a planned 20 billion dollar investment in energy efficiency between 2024 and 2030.
