In the first half of 2026, the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry allocated significant funding toward agricultural support and consumer protection. Out of an annual support budget of 167.6 billion lira, 106 billion lira was distributed to 2.9 million farmers. This funding was primarily directed toward plant production (79.6%), followed by animal production (18.1%), rural development (1.7%), and small allocations for R&D and aquaculture (0.3% each).

Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hüseyin Çavuş noted that the agricultural support budget has seen a 321% increase under the current administration, emphasizing a strategy of modernizing the sector through technology and sustainable water management to ensure food security. 

Regarding consumer protection, approximately 13.1 billion lira was spent on food and feed reliability, plant and animal health, and welfare. Total agricultural expenditures, including research and development, reached approximately 120.7 billion lira. 

While the Ministry manages risk assessment and communication centrally, the structure has faced criticism. Observers suggest that this centralized management may prioritize protecting the state narrative and export reputations over transparent communication regarding public health risks, such as pesticides and aflatoxins.

In September 2026, the Ministry announced an additional 4.108 billion lira in support payments. This specific distribution focused heavily on livestock, with 4.051 billion lira designated for calf support and 45.8 million lira for malak support, alongside smaller amounts for basic and planned plant production.
