Turkey is addressing a crisis within its capital markets involving the liquidation of investment funds. The situation originated from a September 17 decision by the Capital Markets Board to liquidate 131 funds managed by seven portfolio management companies following the detection of “unusual movements” in associated stock prices.

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz initially characterized the issue as a restricted problem rather than a structural economic failure, noting that the government is utilizing administrative and judicial interventions to resolve it.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has since affirmed the stability of the national financial system, stating the volatility does not threaten overall market strength. Ongoing investigations aim to hold those responsible for illegal practices accountable. To prevent future instability, the government, including the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, is developing new administrative and legal regulations to protect investor rights and ensure market performance.
