On August 14, 2026, a Turkish-flagged catamaran sank in the Saronic Gulf near Vouliagmeni, Greece. All ten people on board, including Işınsu Kestelli, President of the Izmir Commodity Exchange, were rescued without injury by the Greek Coast Guard and a nearby luxury motor yacht, the ‘Opera’. 

A subsequent technical investigation conducted by the Greek Coast Guard, insurance adjusters, and specialists from the manufacturer, Catana/Bali, determined that the vessel had no structural defects or hull deformations. The investigation concluded that the sinking was caused by water ingress through an open porthole in the crew cabin, which allowed water to enter the vessel due to wavy sea conditions.
